I have a healthy respect for anything that might kill me (Motorcycles, bears, mountain lions, snakes, people, etc.) but don't really have an unreasonable fear/paranoia of them (OK, maybe a little bit, but it's based upon experience). Be safe and smart...

Thought I saw a long skinny green stalk on the path to the barn yesterday. It moved when I went to pick it up - very smooth to the touch. Had to look it up - it was/is a smooth green snake - about 18" long & 3/8" diameter & harmless. Hopefully it will evade the cats.

Here in ole Southern Ohio country we haven't many nope ropes that will cause real harm besides the occasional copperhead and the elusive timber rattler and massasauga. I've never came across the latter two but have numerous copperheads. Beautiful creatures none the less.
When my sister was younger we were playing in the creek and a copperhead was perched on a rock sunning himself. Luckily I had a visual before she stepped right down on him.
