That's a good starting number! Gus The one I use the most is 2nd from the left - broken harness needle sharpened to a triangular point for the last 1/8th inch and set into an antler time.

Thank you Gus. Very helpful, as always. A few more thoughts for this thread and it concerns thread and needles. Pro leather workers keep a variety of needles in stock for the different size threads they often use. Almost everyone of them I've run across have told me to use the needle size with the eye that will just accept the thread you are going to use. Of course they know what sizes they need and often order needles a dozen at a time, but we amateurs won't do that. What I suggest is when you go to a Tandy Store, compare the needles to the thread you want to use and buy three or four needles in that size. I have also purchased three needles per size in different sizes from them for threads I may want to use in the future. You may also go to a sewing/fabric store and buy a card of different sizes and types of upholstery needles, which are cheaper than buying them in a leather store. When you find the sizes you like by trial and error, you can order more when you need them. Not a bad idea to write down in a notebook what size needles work for you with different threads, once you have tried them - cause if you are anything like me, it will be a while before you need more needles and then you won't remember what size you need. OH, SPECIAL NOTE: There are a lot of good How To videos on leather sewing/working from the UK, however it seems their needles sizes are different than commonly available here. So unless they mention an American company to get the needles from, the needles they advise might not and often won't work. Thank you for the kind words and you are most welcome. Gus
