I simplified the process with shot by making greased, paper-wrapped premeasured loads. I carry 10-12 in a split-belly pouch on my belt. This works for me but may not work for others. Do you still use an over powder and overshot wad? This may be a good squirrel hunting recipe... Running home leather wads can sometimes be a pain. Pattern within 50ft atop a big beech or hickory with just a paper shot cartridge may be completely acceptable.

I use a greased posterboard over powder card and a thin greased mailing envelope card as overshot. One end of the premade shot load is trimmed at loading so the paper serves as a shotcup. No leading and reduced fouling.

I'll have to give this a shot, no pun intended.

I know many use some form of cartridge, mostly for shot, but ball also. I've been tempted but have never tried it. I've never found unequivocal reference to cartridges used by civilians in a non-militia situation in the day, but that's not the reason. I'm doubly weird or doubly blessed, depending on your point of view, because I find loading from loose components a very pleasant part of the game. And after several decades of hunting with ML I still haven't been in a situation where a quick second shot is seriously needed. I say doubly because I also really enjoy cleaning my guns after a hunt or shooting session. It prolongs the pleasure. Spence

I use a lubed felt wad under my shot cup/cartridge, mostly to keep fouling soft and to a minimum.

True, of course. We don't have many arguments, though, because I always know I'm right. Then there's this: "I was talking aloud to myself. A habit of the old: they choose the wisest person present to speak to; the long explanations needed by the young are wearying." Gandalf, The Lord of the Rings, The Two Towers, J. R. R Tolkien Spence LOL!. I used this line on my kids more than once

Piece of brass pipe just under bore size is used as the mandrel. Wrap the brown paper around - paper is cut just wide enough to make a fraction over 2 wraps, twist and tie the end. Add your desired amount of shot to the pipe, pull the pipe above the shot, twist and tie the end. Dip the shot load in melted lube. Paper is from thin brown paper bag, not the heavy grocery type.
