I've made plenty of reverse twist cordage, but not of this size. Or on this scale.

I've made plenty of reverse twist cordage, but not of this size. Or on this scale. Definitely a different animal considering the lengths of twine used. Cordage is child's ply in regards to rope. Once you have a few test pieces of shorter length downpat moving to larger lengths is easily accomplished.

About half-way through your tutorial it dawned on me I had done what you were describing. My wife did a lot of macrame years ago, and we made "rope" for her out of jute or wool yarn in exactly the same way. We had no dedicated appliance such as the rope club, but just fastening the material to a plain dowel rod and twirling it end over end worked quite well.
Hemp rope is good, strong stuff, I have a couple of lengths I bought at some trade fair, less than 1/4-inch in diameter, and I've used them quite a few times to hoist a big deer up to a limb to dress it.

SpenceĀ Very good, that club comes into play given the length of rope . Once the momentum is built up from spinning it really twists those long strands nicely. Shoot in reality if one wants to cheat a power drill could definitely be used. For whatever reason the process is somehow therapeutic.

I also hand-twist cordage. The drill is faster for long pieces of cordage...

Perfect, Keith. I'll get a sledge and some white oak for a stake.

When casting a roundball in silver, will the resulting ball be larger or smaller than one in lead from the same mold? (Asking for a friend)

The silver one would be quite a bit smaller than a lead one, from the same mold. It would still work its magic, though.

Does anyone have more evidence of rope making on a smaller scale?

Just ropewalks - maybe in a native context, you'll find small scale.
