Nice morel! I haven't seen any in my neck of the woods yet this year. We often get them in our pine grove.

Another inspiring post. Hopefully tomorrow morning I will pull myself out of this funk and go... Even not in this mood, I hate getting up in the morning,,, I'm a night owl through and through.
Turkey season is the one time of year that I really, really, wish I had a sling (I cringe and hear Col. Cooper correcting me when I call a carry strap a sling) on my gun. After the morning sit and call, I often like to walk and call. Having my hands free without having to keep finding a good place to put my firelock down would be great.
Anyone else walk and call, or run and gun?

I walk and call allot. One skill that I'm always persistent with is stalking and walking very, very quietly.
I personally feel the ability to hunt/ stalk game whilst on foot is a quality worth working for. I've came across a few people in the woods deer hunting that could wake the dead with the amount of noise they produce.
Just one out of many woodsman skills individuals today take for granted or care less to obtain.

Modern hunters put too much stake in camouflage, gadgets and magic fart-busting underpants. Woods-lore is is a dying art...except among a few of us who apply it.

Thanks for sharing.
I have not tried my turkey hunting in period kit, but got out a bit this season (ends tomorrow here in NC).
Had a tom gobbling for me and my son on an afternoon hunt (we had to hunt from a blind because the land we had permission on only allowed bows). Had him talking to me for 2 hours and came in close (but out of sight over a crest). Then got hung up in a tree line where he roosted at sundown. If my teaching job allowed I would have come back in the morning and tagged him but alas......

No turkey left in this area now, I guess partly from over hunting & partly from feral predators. Shame. Keith.
