As savvy as the old boys could be, sometimes I can't help seeing some prime candidates for the Darwin Award in their antics.. Except for the fact that you get wrinkled balls if your mold is cold...
Regardless, thanks to physics, lead will shrink a certain (and known) amount as it cools. You can make a mold the exact bore size and the cast ball will be marginally smaller every time.
