I recall having cracked cast iron cylinder heads welded & then grinding down the weld with a die grinder. The "trick" with welding cast Iron & not simply expanding or extending the crack is to find a shop with a furnace large enough to hold the damaged item & slowly and thoroughly preheat it before welding. I have "de-farbed" some Lodge cast iron (removing the "Lodge" & and any #s with a grinder, sanding the grinder marks smooth & then stippling the smooth area to imitate the "sandy" surface of the casting. Hope you have good luck with your cauldron - too nice to be a flower pot.
