I'm looking for images of fishing gear (hand lining) appropriate for the 18-19th century. Any other information will be welcome on this topic.

Ok - making horse hair line. Found a video showing how and need a reasonably priced source for tail hair.

Keith, Your site was the first I checked as I remembered you had fishing stuff posted.
I was going to use silk (FFF) but ran across Washington's fishing kit and decided to try my hand at a horsehair line like that shown. Crazy Crow has horsehair - small amounts at a reasonable price. I'm just not sure how much I'll need to make 50-100 feet of line.

The japanned lure you show is excellent! I may make one just for fun - any more pictures? Reminds me of an articulated toy I had as a child that was shaped like a small fish and brightly painted...
Addendum - I found more pics on your site. Where did you find the original images?

I can find it (Etsy, eBay, Amazon), but for what they're charging, you'd think it was made of gold rather than keratin...
Popular hobby (Horsehair hitching) for those who were serving state-sponsored "vacations" in Montana.

I put the word out to my people - I'd forgotten a couple of them have horses 😶. I'm claiming old age and all that...

Why so much? 50-100 ft. is long enough for a trot line.
I made a bit of this just to learn how, it's a slick method. I made 10 feet and it took me an hour.
I have caught a few fat bluegills using it as the main line with whitetail sinew for leader.

There are 6-8 of us and I'd like all to have about 15-20 feet for a fishing experience with period line. I also cold forge hooks which have caught fish in the past. Period fishing trip.
Once I get started down a rabbit trail, it's best to just let me go...😉

As a lifelong avid fisherman I've always enjoyed that aspect of the hobby. I can't explain it, but fish definitely tastes better when caught on primitive, homemade gear. Honest. Spence
