The dog walkers, hikers, joggers, horseback riders, etc, should have to wear it too. All it does now is mark me as a hunter and a target for harrassment. I've always urged those non-hunters who told me they were walking, etc. in the woods during hunting season to wear orange and put orange on their dogs. Fortunately, hunting is somewhere between a religion and mandatory in MT - very little harassment of any sort. Now, the trappers do get a ration of crap from some who claim their dogs were caught. I can sympathize, but trappers are required to stay away from recreational area walking trails (100 feet? 100 yards? I forget) AND nearly all (if not all) the recreational area walking trails require dogs to be on a leash. So - who is responsible for pets getting caught in traps...? There are a few anti-hunters in the area, but they steer clear. The closest I saw were people protesting the university for having a research animal facility. Walked right through that picket line without a challenge - I had science to do in the same building. Sorry - I have led us astray. Back to blankets. Get a blaze Monmouth cap and wear a modern vest. If you must, temporarily pin a piece of blaze modern fabric to your matchcoat/blanket (been there, done that). Those pieces of unsolicited advice are worth what you paid for them.

As an edit - I have a problem with (surplus and other) blankets. I've purchased several with the express purpose of cutting them and making other articles of clothing. What happens nearly every time is that once washed & fulled, I can't bring myself to cut them. I haven't any idea how people cut Whitney and HBC blankets for coats - gives me the shivers just thinking about it.
Hello - my name is Albert and I'm a blanket-a-holic...

Hi Brokennock,
I was looking through "A Soldier Like Way" The Material Culture of the British Infantry 1751 - 1768 last night for something else and spotted an original white blanket on page 56 that is very similar to yours. I wasn't familiar with the thin double lines on your blanket, but there they were on one end of the blanket as it was folded over. Since the blanket shown is folded, I'm only guessing the double lines were near each end? Here is the caption/info on that blanket:
"Military issue blanket, c. 1770-1777 Though this blanket dates from the time of the American Revolution, it is similar to those used from 1755-1768. Length: 68", Width 90" Collection of the Fort Ticonderoga Museum"
It also shows it was marked with the British Broad Arrow over the Royal Cypher "G R" though it doesn't show or say where it was marked.
Thought you might be interested.

Excellent, Keith. Thank you. Native Americans burning blanket fibers to check the quality is not something I expected. Spence
