PARanger, River cane is all over the place here. If you want, give me the dimensions you're looking for and I'll send you some. Right now I'm making fishing poles out of it myself... Much obliged, and I will take you up on that! I should think 30" plenty, as I only have a 26" draw...

I shoot for anything around 3/8" max and under.
Keep in mind it's critical you let them season properly before working!

What about standing dead cane? I'm not entirely sure to be honest as I've never used free standing dead cane, always harvested it green. My instinct says be cautious atleast but it may prove to be completely suitable as cane is really resilient stuff! I'd start by bending a piece to see how it flexes and reacts overall to the stress. If it's flawed you'll know quickly, it'll crack and splinter.

What about standing dead cane? I'd harvest green overlong and let it dry. Use the standing dead for your plants...
