Wow! The pics you sent me earlier didn't do the cedar plug justice. Looking at the way the scalloping on the lobe came out, I'm picturing it being incorporated into a scrimshaw whale,,,, greatly reminds me of whales seen in my time spent around Cape Cod.

Orca has a little different tail. Humpback whales, Right whales, Common Minke whales, were more what I was thinking. And, would be more in line with colonial whaling practices that could possibly find their way to artistic expression on a powder horn carried inland. Maybe over a generation or two. I can see where the black dyed portion brings around the Orca impression though.
