Is anyone getting out there hunting yet? Our squirrel season started September 1st, but my concentration was on getting ready for Archery deer season to start Sept 15th. No muzzleloader deer season here until Dec. Firearms fall turkey season starts this month, but is only a month long.
Headed out with my bow in an hour or so. 40 minute drive then a 20 minute walk to my stand.....
I hate mornings,,,,,, why can't deer be active more mid-day.... lol.

We have several small game seasons open, along with archery deer and a fall turkey season, though no turkey to hunt. Am planning an archery hunt tonight, good luck out there.

Deer are actually active mid-late morning, at least all of the species I've hunted.
They will often come in from a feeding area and graze their way to a bedding spot. After a few hours they'll get up and have a walk around and a bit of a nibble.
I once shot a stag with my muzzleloader, as i had to pack out the meat about a mile through bush thought about reloading in case I saw another but decided against it.
Long story short, I come out under the weight of meat and here not 100 yards from me is a cracking 14 point stag just walking some trails. Was around 11:30 am.

Yes, I see a lot of deer activity mid to late morning. But, when I'm out with my longbow, I like to be in my spot before legal light to give the area time to settle after the disturbance of my passing through. My vision is no longer good enough to capitalize on still hunting and stalking my way to my treestand or ambush site with a bow. I rely a lot on seeing movement, or hearing game moving. I can still hunt and stalk my way to a stand with a gun because of the greater range and quicker time to an accurate shot at distance.
