Just finished a bench copy (minus the quillwork) of a 6 pouce type C boucheron that once belonged to famed 18th c. portrait artist Benjamin West. Like contemporary historical artist Don Troiani, West kept a collection of props and accoutrements in his studio to facilitate his works, among them "The Death of Wolfe," in which natives and Europeans sporting native accoutrements featured prominently. Like the original, this one sports the cutler's mark of Barthelemy Doron. My copy is rendered in the 2 pin configuration. Though the original's handle construction is obscured by the decorative quillwork, two similar sized Doron boucherons with intact boxwood handles feature the 2-pin configuration as well. picture host

I'm impressed with your skills at making these knives, paranger. It must be very satisfying to create such beautiful gear.

I find working with my hands to be rewarding and a nice escape from daily stressors. I am particularly delighted by those serendipitous "lightbulb" moments when I gain some new insight into period techniques (or challenges).

All you need now is the quilled sheath to go with it. How's your quillwork? That sheath was the inspiration for the sheath I quilled for a friend:

To answer your question, my quillwork is non-existent. My mother is pretty good, but I don't think her fingers can handle it anymore, unfortunately.
