I just finished this plug bayonet for my King William doglock fowler. It is meant to represent a colonial copy of a ca. 1690 English plug bayonet. I based it on several period originals. The 17 in. blade was forged from 1075 with a threaded through tang mated to a walnut handle and hardware salvaged from an old Townsend bayonet. With the 54" barrel on the doglock, I have just over 6 ft of standoff: bring on the cavalry!

Wicked neat! Very cool indeed, I've never made a plug bayonet, great job. Shoot that thing out! Haha.
You have inspired me to get my rear in gear and make my German hunting sword for a Hessian Jager impersonation I'm wanting to build.

I have been toying with the idea of a Hunting Sword myself. I am privileged to own an original Hessian Jaeger hunting sword with provenance to the Battle of Monmouth. If you like, PM me and I can share pics, dimensions, etc.

In the estate auction of Tom Wnuck one lot is labeled "3 belt knives". Because of the shape of the handle of the center one shown I've wondered if it is really a plug bayonet. Somebody straighten me out, were belt knives ever made with that shape handle? Were plug bayonets ever made with that short a blade?
Beautiful work, paranger. I am surprised to see that shape blade, I've assumed they were more dagger shaped.
I'm having computer issues, I'll have to post the photo separately.

The middle one is definitely a plug bayonet. I have seen originals with bladescas short as 10-12 inches.

The worn ring on the handle supports plug bayonet as well.
