Anyone else dealt with them? Been trying to buy a set of spectacles (original CW era readers) advertised on their site with little success. I've asked if they have them in my desired power and get an "I'll check" and then no response. After the last time, I sent a followup enquiry and have received no response. This has been going on for nearly 2 years now...poor customer service.

Sounds as though the blockade is working.

If you can get the frames elsewhere, any reputable eyeglass place can put the lenses on that you want. I certainly wouldn't be sending them my money.

I emailed them again today and received a response within 30 minutes. These were the glasses: www.blockaderunner.com/other/eyeglasses.html (first item at the page top). Price is good for originals and cheaper than reproductions available elsewhere. Only (dis)advantage is the lenses are not removable...

Looks pretty good. I wish he had some earlier ones. Although my antique frames with my prescription haven't been worn/used in almost a year.

Hi Black Hand, I purchased items from the Bloockade Runner numerous times in the 90's and early 2000's and was always satisfied with them and their customer service. I purchased my first pair of original eyeglass frames in the late 1970's as there were no repro's back then. I purchased telescoping temple frames as that was the earliest ones I could afford. That style was around from about 1790 to the early part of the first quarter of the 19th century. I was informed and it proved to be correct that as long as the original frames used screws, that modern lenses could be fitted. I think Pearl Vision ground and mounted the first set of lenses. I lost them in a move, and my second set of original eyeglasses had folding temples, though of roughly the same period as before, because of the shape of the frame rims. That set was also "screw mounted," though it required a sort of screw boss on one temple, that blended into the glasses very well. I had that set made by a competitor of Pearl Vision again in our local mall, because Pearl had closed in my home town. I lost that set when I took a hit at the final charge at Newmarket Battle reenactment. So I got a third set of original "screwed together" eyeglasses and basically did the same thing as before. In the late 1990's when I "came back home to the 18th century," I was delighted to get a very nice 18th century repro set from Townsends. I was no more easy on them than earlier eyeglasses, but managed not to lose or damage them during reenacting. I have been extremely happy with them. Gus

As I have 2 periods, I'm looking for readers for the late 1700s and 1830s. I prefer to wear contacts for general vision but need readers for close work. The oval frames should work for the 1800s...
