I do think I would post more if pictures were easier to post here. Having to save them/upload them to a host site then toggle between that site and here, copying and pasting BBCodes is a hassle. But, I am sure this requires technical things that cost money, and while I don't get the range time I would desire, I have less money than time. I've installed every picture-related macro available in the site library - alas, not one allows easy posting of pictures. Unfortunately, my skills do not extend much into the realm of programming (I can program a VCR if that counts ), so I'm stuck with what is available. Maybe an archival project of bringing some of that stuff here would generate more discussion, at a higher level than may have occurred on that other forum? I am uncertain what you mean by this - can you clarify?

FWIW... photos are pretty easy for me from my phone or tablet. I click "add attachment" and I can choose images from my photo library. My iphone allows me to resize on the fly, and I just "insert" the photos in the body of the text. No need to image host or use BBCode.

The issue to consider is that direct attachments eat into the limit set by the site (200 attachments). If posted through an image hosting site, it doesn't affect this limit and if possible, please use hosted images. I've gone back and converted many/most direct image attachments to hosted images as we exceeded the limit and no one could post additional attachments.

I am uncertain what you mean by this - can you clarify? This quote in and of itself is one of the things I find that works differently,, and is beyond my understanding..... So given my extremely limited understanding of how these things work let me start by saying thank you to Black Hand for the work he does here. Thank you Black Hand. I only wanted to quote the last part of Black Hand's post. I know, I know,,,, I can edit the quoted post and remove what I don't want,,,, but I have messed this up severely in the past. Some forums one can click on amd highlight text (like one would do to copy) and an option appears to quote the highlighted text.... very handy. Anyway. The archive thing I mentioned... I stated that poorly. I was mixing up different ideas/thoughts in my head. Several of our members have really great information on that other forum, both in the form of topic replies and topics they have started. It would be great to pull a lot of that here. One way is for the original content poster to copy and paste something they posted there that they think is relevant and worthy of discussion (maybe they posted a topic and the discussion went off the rails). Another way is for some of us that still visit both places, especially newer guys, to do the same and ask about what they read there. This could even include asking about things read on old posts found there that were written by folks no longer with us or that seem to have disappeared, but we're posted there prior to the start of this site. Posts by Brown Bear, Roundball, .54Ball (he shows up now and again but has basically left the hobby), Luke McGill (spelling?) and others.... There are some awesome posts by this guy who's screen name is or was "George" but he seems to have found a higher calling đŸ˜‰ other places. Archiving would be related but I guess a separate idea. There has been a brief discussion recently lamenting the loss of a lot of great information on the old frontierfolk forum which seems to be up but with no active topics, and worse, it doesn't seem that old topics are available. I had heard the forum was going away quite some time ago, but it seems to be in an odd limbo. A lot of great information was to be had there from some of the heavy hitters in living history. This is also the case with the forum on which I first encountered Spence, and I think Artificer too,,,, Muzzleloading Life forum. There was a lot of b.s. there as far as factual history and accurate interpretation was concerned, but I don't recall ugly or disrespectful arguments. And I do recall some really good information that has since been lost. There is no archive of the sites posts, and I was too new to computers/internet/forums to know that I should save what I would want to reference later or how to save it. The info is lost to me. How can we prevent that from happening here?

Sorry that was so long. Just bouncing ideas around. I'm too ignorant in the ways of tech to know how any of this can be done. And as I isolate more and more, seem to be losing the ability to clearly describe what I'm thinking.

My hope was the "Library" subforum would serve as an archive for information and anything of interest for posterity could be posted there. Personally, I would hope that Spence and others could share more of their extensive knowledge for the benefit of current & future members. I am envious of the depth and breadth of knowledge on this site - I don't have enough time for in-depth study of many specifics, only having enough knowledge to be dangerous to myself and others... If there is something in particular that you feel should be placed in the library, myself or the Mods should be able to move it or copy/paste the information into a new thread there.

Nothing in particular comes to mind at the moment. Thank you for your attention to this though. Would the library subforum outlast the forum somehow? I was thinking more of a way to archive posts in a way that would put truth in the warning we give to young people that something posted in the internet os forever...

To the best of my knowledge, everything on the internet IS forever...though some stuff is a little more difficult to find.

I'd love to find a lot of the old posts from Tsutee (spelling) about natural dyes, native language, and a bunch of other things from the Muzzleloading Life forum. And all sorts of posts from Frontier Folk.
