Been away hunting the past few days,no good on the hog deer but did managed to take my first red stag with a flintlock. It's the rut and I managed to roar this guy in to 50m. Broadside high shoulder put him down on the spot with my .535 balls and 100gn Swiss 2F.

Any special recipes or methods of preparation? Any you look forward to above the others?

Thank you,
No fancy things with the meat. Rutting stag gets pretty rank so it goes into mince and a bit of jerky. We eat a lot of mince so it works well.

I make street tacos - the buck from a few years ago was in the rut and had an "assertive" flavor & odor. Marinated in oil, chili powder, garlic powder and salt, grilled or pan grilled, sliced then served on corn tortillas with cilantro, fresh onion, avocado and hot sauce. You could still detect some of the funkiness, but was an excellent way to cover it...

Well done! Where in the world were you hunting? A period hunt with the full getup? A fine result and an accomplishment to be proud of.

Well done bushfire, good eating That will keep you in meat for a while, & think of all the things you can do with those antlers. In which state were you hunting? Regards, Keith.

Okay, I see. The image of the Buffalo threw me off & I was assuming the Territory. Keith.
