We'll call this one a proof of concept. I saw an interesting late 18th/early 19th c. spontoon pipe tomahawk with a unique curved dagger blade and figured it was about time I tried one. My version features a 3.5" asymmetrical curved double beveled blade. I reforged an old 19th c. cobblers hammer, using the broad round face to cup into the pipe bowl. Then I started the hole with a hot punch, then finished drilling through to the eye. It was a fun project, but quite a laborious one. Now I need to find a nice pre-drilled curly maple haft that doesn't require a second mortgage... Update: hafted in curly maple. willow canyon high school
