Getting back into the swing of things I was able to fire the forge and make a simple dagger dimensionally from an original. Nothing fancy, just well made. Overall length is 8" total with a beech handle, steel guard and a brass pommel, tang peened over. Daggers I find are always a challenge with quadruple grinds needing be symmetrical and even which is all done by hand. Great little pig sticker.

A double beveled blade certainly tests your eye and hammer control. Those are executed flawlessly.

Looks… stabby! Nice proportions and the usual high level of craftsmanship.

Looks… stabby! Nice proportions and the usual high level of craftsmanship. Many thanks, stay tuned as I'm finally making a German Jager cuttoe which is something I've been wanting to do for years. Mono steel blade, nothing fancy just again... Well made and finished. Forging is just about finished on the blade. Inspiration: Having trouble finding a good piece of bone or antler to make the dyed handle. I'll be doing a clamshell instead of the bird guard and all forged steel fittings verus cast brass which I'm not a big fan of.

Get me dimensions of the handle. I may have some elk antler that might work for you.

Get me dimensions of the handle. I may have some elk antler that might work for you. That would be agreeable! 5" handle. I haven't been able to establish an exact measurement on circumference. After enlarging my images best I can figure is around 1" finished at the widest point, potentially larger though because it just seems a tad small.

I'll see what I can find...stay tuned.
Determine what diameter fits your hand - elk has a spongy core with about 1/8" or more of solid surface. You can do some thinning and shaping, but not too much.
