Decided to take a turn on my German cuttoe or hunting sword and stick with a simple straight sword of the Anspach Jagers. Ironically my last name with family ties and ancestors coming right from that area of Germany, only fitting. Amongst a native portrayal a Jager persona has been on my list, which this piece technically marks the start of "kitting up". I'm VERY pleased with how the blade has turned out over the past few days as its taken shape. Single piece of 5160 mono steel all hand forged and beveled to a final length of 26" overall and a 19.5" cutting edge. I did cheat however and succumbed to using my 6" belt sander to properly address the spine as I was having difficulties with my hand when doing my file work. Other than that all work has been addressed by hand. There are still a few small imperfections existing on the blade were I got overzealous with my hammer control and some file marks but it's tasteful character of good crafting. Handle and guard work to follow. nine sided dice online

Gorgeous blade, my friend.
I have the honor of owning an original Jaeger hunting sword, and I assure you the "imperfections" you speak of are authentic.

I have the honor of owning an original Jaeger hunting sword, and I assure you the "imperfections" you speak of are authentic. 😉 Thank you kindly, you know the struggles involved with such a piece for sure and what it takes. I'm very happy with it given I'm technically still recovering from my mishap and I was able to produce the blade. Maybe you'll have some insight on my next dilemma that has been bothering me. I've sourced a few original images of Jager swords with an ever so slight false edge that appears to be about 8 or so inches. I however cannot find anything pertaining to swords being manufactured with that false edge. I'm going on a limb with good reasoning that those edges "may" have been added? What are your thoughts?

Hmm, interesting. Well I can really only tell you about mine with any certainty. It's a full flat grind with about a 3/16" spine and no false edge. Whether others were produced with false edges, I couldn't say - but your hypothesis seems plausible.

Would you mind posting some images of your original? I have a few you've posted saved but I'd really like to see some close shots of the handle and guard construction if you wouldn't mind. Many thanks!

Absolutely beautiful... Cast bronze on the hardware I'd say? Ivory handle?

Absolutely beautiful... Cast bronze on the hardware I'd say? Ivory handle? I think it is actually cast brass with a rather heavy patina. The handle is either ebony or a REALLY hard jacked leather with a brass wire wrap.

I look forward to seeing the finished jaeger sword. Richard/Grumpa
