Well those are neat! The boxes look fabulous. Pillsā¦ got any rabbits? There may be a hard candy that could be used. Licorice or rootbeer barrels melted poured into a mold?

Ryan, I've been on the lookout for candies, but the ones I found were too big, pre-wrapped or the wrong flavor (BTW I truly dislike licorice). I experimented with making some candies, but didn't have much luck - playing with sugar is tricky. I haven't quit on the idea, but I'm working out Lemon Gibralters at this time.

I think you did a great job on the box labels. I too was thinking of licorice for the pills. There is an old fashioned candy store near where I stay on Cape Cod. They sell little tablets of "double salt licorice" that would be almost perfect.... except you don't like licorice. What about horehound? Can existing candy be melted and reformed? At least it would be a classic flavor, and good for a sore throat.

Very nicely done! Those are the details that are strikingly important. Really neat indeed.

The licorice candy would be excellent for display purposes and if I decide to sell to tourists at some event or another. For display, it doesn't matter what's in there, but I'd like it to be edible. I'll report back if I manage to make some candies to fit - I used ground fennel seed when I last tried which does have a anise flavor as the recipe does contains licorice: Sappingtonās Anti-Fever Pills āwere simply composed of one grain quinine each, three-fourths of a grain of liquorice, and one-fourth grain of myrrh, to which was added just so much of the oil of sassafras as would give to them an agreeable odorā (79).americana.princeton.edu/2012/07/12/sappingtons-theory-treatment-of-fevers/

Delightful!
We had a "scoundrel" married into the family way back, used to travel down through West Virginia selling his own concocted elixir. I don't think he ever blinded anyone, and he was always welcomed back. ( Unlike the car dealership, where he took the latest model out for a test drive...and just kept driving!)

Apparently, painted paper mache items were a thing historically... 2 cm deep x 4.4 cm diameter

Sorry, any chance of repeating that picture in some natural lighting. All I see is a dark circular blob with a light ring that appears to have some design to it.

Ah, much better. Thank you. What did you use for paint?

As this was a prototype, I used acrylic artist paint and a gold marker. I do have milk paint and watercolors though oil paint would likely be the most "period" choice.
