With the recent arrival of my reproduced second variant of Claude Doron's cutler's mark from Buckeye Engraving, I was finally able to begin a project that I have been wanting to tackle for months. This is what I believe to be the first documented full tang, 3 pin boucheron with provenance to a pre-1760 native site (I checked with both Kevin Gelinas and Ken Hamilton on this). It was found early last year at a northern Michigan Ottawa site by the renowned metal detectorist and fur trade artifact book author Bob Bennett. Though the original blade is obviously incomplete, I overlaid it on a 1:1 template from a 7 pouce boucheron found at Fort Ticonderoga and it was a perfect match. So, I used the Ft Ti boucheron to extrapolate the missing portion of the blade in my reproduction. untitled images

Reproduced from originals and forged in the proper way. I had a chance to see this blade yesterday. It’s wonderful and the PC flat grind is perfect. Well done, friend.

Very nice! You and Hawkeyes have inspired me to make a replica of both the English and French butcher/scalpers, just trying to get the nerve up to post pics , Lol.
