My period knives have not been very pc up to this point, and not being able to afford a knife from some of the great knife makers on this forum, I decided to try it myself. After pouring over the info and pics given so freely by Paranger, Hawkeyes, & others on this awesome forum, I bought some rough blades from flea markets for just a couple dollars and took my angle grinder to them to shape them into the sizes that are documented for the English & French trade knives. While cutting firewood I noticed that Mulberry has a color very similar to Boxwood, so I used that on the handle for the Boucheron, and the red handle on the Eng. scalper was from an old rocking chair that we threw away, I have no idea what wood it is but I thought it resembled some of the red woods from South America, etc. I gave them both a coat of Linseed oil to finish them off. Both of these are of the large 7" variety. Thanks for all of the info from Ya'll.

That mulberry looks CRAZY good! Well done. I started with the ‘grind an old knife’… but never actually finished anything!
Keep studying the originals. Make the shape over and over. And if you’re curious about forging, google “box of dirt forge” and have at it.
