I was recently given a detailed sketch of an original dagger found at the Raisin River battlefield in Michigan (part of the 1813 Detroit campaign) and was excited to reproduce it. It is an unusual piece, with a 7" double edged blade, full tang, and "ball" or "pistol grip" handle. Spine thickness at the tang is approx. .16", tapering to .12" about 2" from the tip. The blade cross-section is lenticular, with no pronounced medial ridge. My version was hand forged from S-6/7 tool steel from an old saw mill bandsaw blade and features curly maple scales. It has excellent balance and would make a wicked little fighting knife. I think even Rex Applegate would approve of the design.😁 Thanks to Georgia bladesmith Michael Brown for putting me on to it.
