Is there something I can apply to a piece of fabric I have dyed with very diluted Fiebings leather dye to keep the color from bleeding out? I had an oversize bandana I want to use as a head scarf but it has that paisley pattern many of them have, in white, looked horrible. I diluted some medium brown Fiebings with a bunch of isopropyl alcohol and applied it to the backside of the cloth so it would soak through. It looks much better. I let the alcohol evaporate till the cloth was dry, wet it in the sink with water and it bleeds. I don't see a color change in the white parts that are now brown, but the water is stained. I don't want my bald head stained Fiebings medium brown.
Thanks, Dave

Fabric dyes use a mordant, but I can't see it working on the stuff you used. If it was mine, I would boil out the leather dye with a laundry detergent & re do the bandanna with a fabric dye. woodsrunnersdiary.blogspot.com/2013/03/bandhani-bandana-or-bandannoes.htmlKeith.

Thanks, Dave I'd wash the bandanna until dye no longer bleeds out, You could try fixing the dye with vinegar or salt in the water, but there is no guarantee it will work.

Thank you gentlemen.
The funny thing is that if I get that stuff in clothing that I don't want it on, it will never come out.

No John. As you know, other things have taken precedence over what I enjoy in life lately. Haven't really been able to do much with many projects, and that one is low on the priority list. I might try to go out in the morning to hang a treestand and may just take the risk of wearing the bandana and see what happens. If I start that new job next week with a bandana pattern dyed on my head in Fiebings medium brown, and they are okay with it, I'll know I'm in the right place. If they have a problem with it,,,, well,,,,, part of me was kinda hoping to stay unemployed through the 1st couple weeks of the archery deer season anyway....

Thanks Keith. I'm eying the ripening red sumac berries wanting to use them to dye a hunting shirt. But, I don't want to pick a couple 5 gallon buckets full and then not have time for the project. I'm also not sure what I can use for a vessel to dye such a bulky item. So again, don't want to pick all those berries and not be prepared to follow through.
