I now have 2 partial bottles of Goex fffg opened. Both are the newer plastic bottles. Is it okay to combine them so that I only have 1 opened partial bottle? I keep all my powder in a well sealed .50BMG ammo can but I still would like to limit the number of opened, potential moisture contamination risk, bottles I have.
Thanks.

Unless you are an OCD target shooter who keeps track of the lot numbers of his powder I can't think of any problem. I consolidate tail-ends of cans both metal and plastic all the time, never have seen any change in the way my guns shoot.
I've also never kept my powder in anything to attempt keeping regular ambient humidity from it. Never a problem.

Thanks Spence. I am definitely NOT and OCD target shooter.
The biggest reason I keep the powder in said heavy can is not the moisture issue, though it's water tight seal is a side benefits. I like to keep my powder in the heavy .50BMG ammo cans so that in case of a house fire, I can throw the ammo can out the second floor bedroom window quickly and easily.

Do it quickly. I'd guess that if your ammo box wound up in the fire it might exceed the ignition temperature of the powder and make a nice bomb. Just a guess, though. The fire department would know.

Mate when it comes to my living history activities & muzzleloading, I am pretty basic. I think that was the way it was back in the period. I am not into ballistics, I tried a few loads many years ago & I compromised between what I considered a decent load & the distance that I shoot at. I get in pretty close so I don't miss. I never let my powder horn get empty, & I doubt any sensible woodsrunner in the 18th century would have either, so newer gunpowder on top of older gunpowder is inevitable sooner or later. Like Spence says, unless you are into precision bench-rest shooting, I would not be concerned about it. Keith.

Yup, Spence, that's the idea, get it all out together and quickly.
Fire dept. doesn't need to know how much powder I have, what I have, or how it is stored. Gov't here in the northeast is intrusive enough without inviting them in.
