Good stuff. Thanks for sharing the pics. Is the toboggan made of plywood? Did you make it?

Now we are talking true relaxation in the forest! A fine trek indeed!

Good stuff. Thanks for sharing the pics. Is the toboggan made of plywood? Did you make it? The toboggan is made from Ash - 3/4"x8"x8' straight-grained plank, resawed, planed to ~1/4" and lashed with rawhide. The curve was boiled/steam-bent.

Wow. Nicely done, I couldn't/can't see the the detail that well. At least on my phone, I can't expand the page, pictures or text, like on other forums, and imgbb won't let me either, at least not without a bunch of pop-ups.

I can see it now in the pic of the loaded toboggan, now that I know what I'm looking for, two 10" wide boards. I have done some steam bending for self bows, never something that wide. Did you use a jig to get them both the same or do them both together somehow?
I've been wanting to get a toboggan for hauling my treestands out of the woods and other such chores when snow is on the ground after deer season closes. Too expensive to purchase. Wasn't sure how to bend all those boards the same. But 2 wide boards now seems a good option.

The final width of each board is 6 inches. I trimmed the original board lengthwise before resawing so I would have wood for the cross-pieces. On the underside, I used a small gouge to make space for the rawhide lashings so they were protected by being below the surface. Brass wire could also be used instead of rawhide and I carry a coil for repairs in a small bag tied to the cords holding the front curve. After heating, I clamped both pieces to my assembly table and bent the nose - in retrospect, I would have used my heat gun during the bending because I had to glue down a couple splinters that lifted. When I make another, it will be about 5 feet long from nose to tail as opposed to the 7ft of the one seen in the pictures. The smaller version would be just right for 1 person. The longer one is loaded with gear from 2 people in the pictures and we traveled heavy that trip since we were staying for 2.5 days in February weather. On the other hand, it was nice to have plenty of blankets for warmth. www.vintageprojects.com/kids/snow-toboggan.pdf

...at least not without a bunch of pop-ups. I do all my mobile browsing using the Opera internet browser - comes with built-in ad and pop-up blocking. Haven't seen any in quite some time. I run Chrome or Opera with the Adblock Plus browser extension on my computer - no ads or pop-ups either. The Brave browser automatically blocks this junk too...
