Today I decided another project needed doing. I've been meaning to complete this one for some time in preparation for use in other endeavors were required. Simple mortar from a piece of hard swamp oak, 12" in height and 8" in diameter. Center was burned out and rasped when needed. If anyone has worked hard white oak it doesn't forgive, nor will it trying to burn the center out. Pestle is a piece of good hard maple. Excellent little tool that is obviously of ancient origins and very useful. Ground up some parched corn with great ease. Certainly will be exceptional for oats and meal.

Excellent! Well done. I made one a little larger out of a tree stump up at the old cottage, I guess it is still there. It worked well, but having little use for it it did not get used much & over time I forgot all about it until now. Keith.
