Got a chance to run 10 balls this morning through one of my new Callahan molds. Hoping the weather holds out for a woods walk this afternoon, forecasters say strong storms. Love Larry's molds, own five others and HIGHLY recommend them.

Was able to get out in the woods for a nice walk and some shooting. Even with the rain had a ball. Very impressed with the new type G trade gun. From about 50 yards off hand with 75 grains 3F, 595 ball and spit patch cut at the muzzle I'm one happy hawk!

I've been hearing about Callahan molds for years, never heard a negative comment that I recall. I've never had one, but have had good luck with a range of other brands. Just for curiosity's sake, can you tell me what it is about them which makes them so great?
Thanks.

His molds are precisely machined which gives a perfectly round ball each and every time with no variation in tolerance. Larry is always open to conversation regarding his method and gladly shares it if you call and ask him specifically. He also will resize any mold for free regardless of age. Not many individuals will do that! Being made by someone who backs their product and believes in true customer satisfaction is the reason I feel they are so great.

Excellent customer service is certainly an important factor, and increasingly rare in today's world.
I've seen complaints about molds from other, big name companies, about inaccurate ball size, etc., but I've never had that problem. I've actually been surprised at the quality of some molds where you wouldn't really expect it. I have a brass bag mold from Dixie Gun Works, for instance, that throws excellent balls and is dead on the money. I use it to cast all my .530 balls and have been very pleased. The same goes for my several Lee molds. Overall, I've been very satisfied with the quality of molds available.
Thanks for the picture, I never saw a Callahan mold before.

Spence From what I understand those old dixie molds were made by Rapine... Had the opportunity to purchase one of the brass varieties and kick myself for it. Larry also is an avid collector of antique period molds. He has an impressive collection and based his off an original. I'll try to contact him and get the original image. He indeed is a swell guy to do business with and very knowledgeable in his area of expertise.
