Fashioned a bare bones, non fancy friction folder yesterday afternoon. A little project I've been wanting to complete. Simple blade repurposed from an old scraper, heat treated and hardened. Simple drop from a deer antler, iron pin and ring made from stock I use for barrel tenons and stock mounting pins. Set a razor's edge on the stones. Always the small little project's that are so fun and relaxing.

Awesome job! I gotta try that!! Thank you kindly good sir. Keith also has a fabulous video tutorial of himself fashioning his own. Great HC project to try for anyone interested. Hardest step of the process is repeatedly fitting the blade to the handle ensuring you get a good fit/ clearance for the blade to rotate. I tried drilling the pin and ring holes without removing the temper from the blade which was good. However failure ensued as it was just to hard so resorted to removing it completely for drilling. Was concerned with warping the thin blade which can be an issue depending on what quenching medium one uses. For thin material I like using regular cooking oil, draws the heat out slower than quenching in water which helps keep things straighter. Both water and oil have advantages and disadvantages, find with thinner materials oil is a safer bet and worthwhile.

Awesome video, Keith. FYI, there are 18th century friction folders with a second pin for a blade stop. Below is a 2 pin French siamois:

You inspired me, Hawkeyes. Here's my first attempt at a (2 pin) friction folder.
