If you haven't dealt with Kathy at Cobb Creek Merchants, www.cobbcreek.com/clothing.htm you are missing out. I've been wanting a cooler, earth tone, waistcoat of F.&I. style to compliment my warm, maroon/burgundy, wool waistcoat, for warmer weather hunting and hunting game like turkey that see color. A few weeks ago I decided to bite the bullet and just order one and use my credit card. I emailed Kathy using her website's contact feature explaining what I was looking for and my size, this was at 03:00 in the morning eastern DLS time, while still at work. By 09:00 in had my 1st response from Kathy. She is in central time. I was looking for brown or something in the tan to brown range. She was out of brown linen, but would order some of I desired. She sent pics of some waistcoats already complete in my size, and some color sample pics of fabric she already had available, after a little back and forth over just a few hours we decided on Cobb Creek making me a waistcoat of "camel" color linen. All on a Sat. morning. 3 days ago I got a phone call from Kathy, 2 weeks after our initial email conversation, that my waistcoat was already shipped and should arrive in a couple days. I hadn't even paid her yet. Sure enough, yesterday, Thursday, the postal carrier dropped this off,
Everything is beautifully done. Quality appears excellent. The only oddity is the pocket buttons. There appears to be button hole stitching on the flaps, but the holes are not cut through and the buttons are sewn to the flap, a friend ordered and received a waistcoat that Kathy had sent me a pic of initially, and his is the same way. I will ask Kathy about it when I email her later.
All in all, no negatives here. A very nice product and excellent customer service.

I quite agree: Kathy is a peach.
All their coats and waistcoats come with faux pocket buttons. Not sure why. I simply cut the buttonholes and re-sewed my buttons on to make them operable. Piece of cake - especially since I overstitch all the buttonholes by hand, anyway.

Here is Kathy's response regarding the button holes, "OK-we do the pockets that way because most guys do not to deal with buttoning and unbuttoning their pocket flaps. That way they look they are buttoned but you do not have to do it. You can cut the button holes and relocate the buttons if you would rather them that way. If we make you another one in the future just let me know that is how you want them and we do it for you."
Next rainy day with nothing to do, that will be the project.

Looks sharp with that checked shirt!! I find it a little disconcerting that enough of our compatriots are too lazy to button a pocket flap so much so that a sutler of her caliber avoids a properly functioning flap...

I would have to say that if I were in and out of a pocket often with something, say a small flat horn or bag or shot, while squirrel hunting, I probably wouldn't button that pocket. But the other pocket may be carrying something not needed often, but could be a major crisis if lost, so would be buttoned.
I think I will do the right pocket 1st, as I'm more likely to put something in it I won't use often, due to interference from belt and shot pouches. But, in case I can't complete the project in one run, I'll do the middle button 1st so the flap can be secured even if the ends aren't done yet. It should also help keep thing lined up.

Anyone have any suggestions for taking some of the reflective shine off the buttons, without really changing the color. I usually use a B.C. cold blue bluing pen for such things, but I don't want to blacken them. I would guess vinegar and mustard would be out as they would change the color.
I know they will loose shine naturally over time spent outdoors, but I don't need to be spooking game all over creation in the meantime.

Buff them with scotch brite or steel wool, works like a charm in knocking the shine off.
