The pouch flap design is something I've never seen before. (Good to know there are still new tricks an Old Devil Dog can learn.) With the edges of the top of pouch basically sewed shut for/by the straps, the flap doesn't have as much "work" to do to keep everything inside the pouch. I do wonder how well the pouch hangs, though, as the straps are not angled to better fit the body?

Hawk, Can't seem to lay hand to that book any longer. Out of print and no spares to be found out there to date. Willing to share yours?

Gus I'm not a large framed fella, wears very well for me, so much so you honestly have no idea it's there at your side. A bigger framed person may not like it, broad shoulders and what not. Essentially there is just enough room for spare ball and any simple accoutrements you absolutely need for a day hunt, a minimalist shooting bag. As of now this particular bag is without a doubt my go to squirrel rig. The original looked somewhat rushed, definitely a homestead piece I'd say out of quick necessity. Tried somewhat to mimic that with rough edges and whatnot. In all, very functional.

Check your library, thats were I got a copy after they sent it in from another branch, which given the nature of the book I was very surprised they could get it. Also, ebay?

Tried somewhat to mimic that with rough edges and whatnot. In all, very functional. Great point on the different size frames of folks using such a pouch and how it hangs. Of course since your pouch is made from split moose, the straps and pouch will be softer and thus hang better for that reason alone. Oh, was the original made from split hide?
Personally I believe most of the time, it is great to copy the original as closely as possible and that includes rough edges and whatnot. That's how many originals were actually made. The only time I stray from that is when there is a serious flaw in the original design, which this pouch does not seem to have.
As an example of not following bad design would be on the Virginia Pouch that has an adjustable strap by period linked buttons. Skip the linked buttons and use a one piece strap or two piece straps with a buckle for a pouch that is still period correct, though will last much longer.
BTW, I really like the pewter button you used on the flap closure. I have used them on many, if not most pouches I've made as they are period correct and extremely serviceable.

GusIn terms of split hide or not, I cannot say with certainty. Split is what I had available so naturally used it. Moose split is the toughest hide I've ever used for projects.
