Hawkeyes, I have a pack (untested) that is similar to yours but the straps are further apart and may need to be reset closer but I find when they are too close that the main bag tends to swing and shift with movement. My first trip out with will tell me much. A sternum strap looks like a good addition. The Seneca pack frame is what I have an interest in and will produce a usable rendition as soon as I can collect the materials to do so. I mainly queried about the packs themselves in this thread and I will need to replace the one I have currently with a version of what I've learned about here from yourself, Hand and Keith. Not so sure it would be the most Period Correct piece but I am going to try and keep it close to those guidelines and still suit my needs and comfort level. The Sicilian Glad you made it to the party my friend! Welcome! Certainly keep us posted on the progression of that pack frame when the time comes.

HawkEyes, I have been following Dave Canterbury's videos as far as steam bending and construction for the Seneca pack frame. Although his pack frame is more a reproduction of Otzi the Iceman's. I have also paid attention to the tools he's used. I've purchased carving knives in a set from Amazon to include a crooked knife, a gimlet set that wasn't expensive but is completely inferior because the spiraled cutting channels of the "drill" shaft are way too shallow to carry material out the hole. I will try them regardless. If you don't already know of Canterbury's videos on this topic they are worth a look. If there is an interest I will post links for the other Noobs!! LOL He also uses Birch oil to treat the wood and goes over the process of how to make that as well. I will start making it a habit of taking pics to document projects.
Keep an Eye on your back trail Friend,
The Sicilian
