This is my attempt to recreate the shot pouch in this ca. 1722 portrait of the Marquis de Beringhen by Jean-Baptiste Oudry. image uploadIt was made from an elk hide with deerskin welting completely surrounding the two piece gusset, as in the original (I suspect the original may have been made from red stag, so elk would seem to be its nearest North American cousin). The clasp is an antique French gilt brass purse frame from the late 19th or early 20th c. The brass buckle is a reproduction of an original found at Yorktown. upload pic

Well aren't you Mr. Fancy... lol. Very, very, well done sir. How is the brass frame attached? LOL...OK, I guess I deserved that! The frame is sewn on with fine linen thread and a gloves needle through very small holes around the edge of the frame.
