Can anyone recommend a sutler or vendor that can make small tin or copper period-correct containers for carrying bear oil, olive oil, etc for my shooting bag? Like this one?

Looks like a perfect opportunity to learn a new skill - great Saturday project... If you have an old metal Goex can or one of those metal Olive oil containers, you should have more than enough material.

Wow. I wouldn't even know where to start trying to make one of these. I would love to try.

Wow. I wouldn't even know where to start trying to make one of these. I would love to try. Good idea actually. A low temp solder would be perfect for such a project. However I paid, if I recall about $10-15 for my oiler. Have no problem supporting others in the hobby when it comes to certain things. He does an excellent job with his tin work.

There are some things I enjoy making myself, including some clothes so I know they fit me, but I really go out of the way to support people in the hobby. The only downside, is in this case he is about four months behind.

In short: Make a tube from flat sheet (fold over/interlock edges and solder), form two end-caps to fit the tube, drill a hole in one end-cap and insert the spout (made similar to the body) and solder everything together. Leak-test with water and put a cork in it...

I for one would love that. There are a few tin items I've wanted to create and this being one. What do you use to form the material? Small dowel of sorts?

My oiler came from Carl Giordano. Excellent work. He has a website - Carl Giordano Tinsmith.

Armando, Honestly, I haven't had the best experience with ordering from Hot Dipped Tin. His items are quality but best bought from already available stock otherwise the wait is long> I tried to order the same exact item and was put off by the long wait so I scoured Etsy to find this vendor: www.etsy.com/shop/TheVillageTinner He was kind enough to custom make the item as it was not a part of his inventory. He just may have saved the templates to make one for you. Mine was made from tin but I don't think copper would be a stretch. I do encourage learning to make these things yourself but if you are like me, you may want it for an upcoming event and with buying the first one you can reverse engineer the future ones...

Hobby lobby sells copper sheets, can't remember the thickness but it's a few thousands and would be perfect for such a project. Couple that with a coupon you'd probably score a sheet for under $5.00 with enough material to make multiples.
My wheels are turning so I may have to make one of these...

Good golly man - you can make a mortar so a simple flask such as this should be a walk in the park with an ice cream cone....

For general interest, here's a site with pictures of quite a few original gun oilers of various types and materials. A lot of other interesting items as well. Scroll down...I never reached the bottom. www.antiquegunsandtools.co.uk/access.htmlSpence
