Hobby lobby sells copper sheets, can't remember the thickness but it's a few thousands and would be perfect for such a project. Couple that with a coupon you'd probably score a sheet for under $5.00 with enough material to make multiples. My wheels are turning so I may have to make one of these... Good golly man - you can make a mortar so a simple flask such as this should be a walk in the park with an ice cream cone.... Hopefully! Haha

For general interest, here's a site with pictures of quite a few original gun oilers of various types and materials. A lot of other interesting items as well. Scroll down...I never reached the bottom. www.antiquegunsandtools.co.uk/access.htmlSpence Really neat accoutrements on there. I found a "target ball" never heard of a dedicated piece. Excellent examples of some oilers on there.

Looks huge in the pic. Do you have something to place in the picture for scale?

Not including the stopper, the oiler is 3.5 inches high and 0.75 inches in diameter. ADDENDUM - the entire project took about 1.5 to 2 hours (includes processing time for the original container to recover the usable sheet material)

Excellent! A tutorial must follow suit...
That's a fine piece, very well done.

It’s exactly what I was looking for… I’m simultaneously impressed and emasculated because I feel like I lack so many skills.

Does anyone know if he is still in business? Or know him personally? I placed an order for an oiler with him back when someone first mentioned him and the order went through but I’ve never heard back. Also has not responded to my emails. Hope he is all right!

Want me to make you a new wood block for your cartridge box? A 7/8" or 1" "accessory" hole an option.

Want me to make you a new wood block for your cartridge box? A 7/8" or 1" "accessory" hole an option. Hi Coot, Thanks for the kind offer, but I have the drill press and block of wood, just down a ways on my "to do" list. After almost 3 years, the ulcer under my big right toe is almost healed, but I doubt I'll be able to use the cartridge block again. So my plan is to fix it and donate it to someone who can use it. Gus
