Let's remember all those who made it possible.

I'm afraid they would be disappointed in what we've made of their gift..

I agree. I guess it's up to us to make it right?

I actually think many of them would be surprised that we have made it this long or come this far. They were not the homogenous group of visionaries we tend to think of them as (Beeman's book "Plain, Honest Men" illustrates this diversity of thought pretty well).
There seems to be a human tendency to long for an idyllic "golden age" in the past when things were qualitatively "simpler" or "better." For this group, the 18th c. is an obvious choice for such thoughts and feelings.
Personally, I don't think any such time existed in human history, though of course we can find people and things to revile or admire in any age - including this one - if we look. That said, we would likely not all agree in every case upon which was which - even among this august company.
End of sermon.

Makes me truly wonder if they would think we all were legally insane for the portrayal of their lives as a hobby...
None the less, despite the problems we have as a country I'd still take the problems we have versus almost 99% of the other nations round the world. We have the one and only constitution for which is the basis of everything we are as America. We are truly a blessed and beautifully diverse nation, happy birthday my America! 🇺🇸 🇺🇲

We are blessed and its is fitting and propper that we should honor the complex and often flawed men and women,…
Patriot and Crown and Native,…
from the many Nations and Religions,…
Paupers, Slaves, Tradesmen,…
Indentured and Freemen,…
Merchants and Preachers and Lords and Philosopher Princes,…
from Discovery to Ratification…
who’s lives and beliefs and relationships and morals,…
led to the settlement of a continent,…
and the forging of a nation unique among humankind.

For this group, the 18th c. is an obvious choice for such thoughts and feelings. The 18th & 19th centuries are a distraction from the troubled times we live in. In some respects, this is the best of times, in other respects, the worst of times. I'll stop now before I stray into forbidden territory...
