Not sure if this goes in "gear of the 18th century," or here because one cooks with a kettle (not that cooking would have been the only use). But, kettles have been discussed quite a bit in the past, here and elsewhere. I'm always surprised how thin the old cast iron kettles tend to be. That takes skill.
