Thirty-five years ago I acquired what I thought might be an old powder keg. It had a damaged cardboard tag tacked on it on which I could barely make out "St. Louis". The tag has since crumbled to dust. There are a few letters stenciled on one head, can't decipher them. The keg is 16"x10" with 6 bands. I had never removed the wooden bung, but decided to do that today. It was tight, but I got it out by hand, no big problem. The #23 on the bung is a lead plug. The bung is 2 3/4" in diameter. It occurred to me there might be residual powder in it if it really was a powder keg. I shook it over paper and what looked like powder came out. That got me excited, I assure you. It didn't last, unfortunately. I tried my best to get it to burn, no such luck. So, maybe it was just spider poop, or powder so old and damaged it won't burn. The keg is still neat. Spence
