My oldest son has been a horse person most of his life. When he was managing my little farm he had a good quarter horse which gave him two nice foals. One was a filly he named Rebel. She became his number one horse, and they spent the last almost four decades building memories together. Rebels time ran out yesterday at the age of 38 years. I had the pleasure of trail riding with her occasionally, she was a class act. The sadness will last a while. Spence

Losing a (4-footed) family member is tragic. Sorry to hear...

Much sorrow indeed, I know that feeling of loosing a hoofed companion. My condolences in this time.

The joy that she gave will last for several lifetimes. I am touched by the sadness that you all feel for her loss.

You are right about the joy, Richard.
It's hard to explain the relationship one has with a horse to people who've never been around them. You have the feeling that there is another being there, one which reacts to you with what must be intelligence of a sort. They respond in ways that are familiar. It's very pleasant to feel a connection, a communication which you have the distinct feeling must be two-way. When I would walk up to the corral where my old quarter horse was, he would come to me, stick his head over the rail and make a low chuckling sound, as though he was saying something to me under his breath. He seemed happy, whatever that means to a horse. I know I was.

I still miss my horses, I have not ridden since I left the Territory. A brumby mustang broke down the fences & took my favourite grey, so I turned the other two out to run with the brumbies when I left. Doubt I will ever get another horse, but one never knows. Keith.

Keith, What is a "brumby"? Albert Brumby is what Australians call a wild or feral horse, same as our mustang. Spence

Spence is correct, Brumbies are wild horses. Keith.
