I foresee it coming to that black Hand. I'll never stop shooting my muzzleloaders one way or another that's for sure.

I'm an introvert myself, I think many of us that seek solitude in the wilds are. But I still would like to see more out there. On a personal and selfish level I'm concerned about the availability of powder long term. Swiss is imported by one older gentleman and that's it. So, why don't you become the "other guy" who imports and distributes black powder. Goex is supposed to be up and running within the year. Be their Australian connection.

You're mentioning of young native people's is a good one nock. Perfect example of this very topic honestly and it goes hand in hand with living history on many fronts.
There's allot to dive into and I'm not going to spill all that here for the sake of this being one of the only positive and enjoyable website places I like to come to. I'd like to keep it that way, but you are right in what you said. Did the powwow scene for many years drumming and dancing at eastern events. It was certainly an experience, positives and negatives. From the history side of things it's disharmony and dysfunction with reality in certain ways. I still drum, but not in that capacity anymore.
The history/ family ancestral areas are far more important to pass on for me. Many people on numerous fronts today want to be heard, but they can't "listen".

So it's funny how things work out. On the last project (doc), I was told that our producers wanted the real deal to portray Creek delegates for a scene. I used a few unconventional techniques to get a handful of guys of which two were actual descendents of their characters, and another two from other southern tribes. Only a couple even had any acting experience. We recreated some period sketches with the guys down to the finest detail for the scene. At the end of the day after they changed out and we're waiting for the bus back to the hotel, one mentioned that he didn't feel right. He had powwowed for years, even sings with The Boyz. They even go to green corn in OK every summer, but there was still some sort of disconnect with their 18th c history. Anyway, he said wearing that costume all day made him feel really good. A couple months down the road a couple of them texted me to ask for guidance on putting together living history kit for themselves. Production gave them the portions of their costumes from set that they still had which including about $400 in the best repro stroud I'd ever held. Good times.
The wife and I are indeed working hard on a historical reality show concept, so hopefully the world doesn't implode too bad in the next couple years so it can get made.

Ewoaf, that was a good read. Maybe there is hope.
A "historical reality show" sounds interesting. Maybe worth buying or borrowing a TV for.

Good story of the reality. That's exactly the realistic picture I was trying to convey and something you got to work first hand.
I'm trying to approach things differently this year in regards to historical education. Not much in regards to living history events but locally at our society. I like working with kids mostly. Their questions are usually almost always innocent and they allow things to flow. I'm wanting to give them the opportunity at a hands on experience which gets them engaged as participants. This hopefully will make a lasting impression and plants a seed per say. I'm located in a rich area of history within the state, both native and on the frontier side of things which makes there plenty of material to go around.

Talk to the American History teacher at your local middle-school (middle-schools?). Next year is year 15-ish (or more, as I forget) for me taking all my stuff to the school and having the kids look, hear, feel, taste & smell history. It's a great time and very enjoyable. As a bonus, I get to eat school lunch and am usually joined by a collection of kids that were in the classes before lunch. You should see their faces when presented with a Nutmeg. Many have never seen one in its natural state, only being familiar with that mediocre flavored sawdust in the home spice cabinet. Grate some into their hand and watch them try to figure out what it is. Some are confused when you tell them to smell and taste the gratings....

I already have actually. I remember us conversing about the project you do at the local school. Kids need that type of learning first hand. Gets them to put the tablets and game controllers down...
We do a yearly pioneer days which usually ended up being an absolute hog wash before I got involved. Inconsistencies at every corner with no relevance to factual history in the surrounding area. I'd like to come up with a simple period craft...

I'd like to come up with a simple period craft... We've made friction-fire sets, blanket coats, wolf-ear caps and split-belly pouches/pouches (as a few ideas) at the Scout event I attend. Watching kids sew is hysterical - more spider web than stitches...

Now that is impressive sir. Have many kids followed up afterwards to get into shooting or develop some life skills based off your teaching?

I can't really say. The school is 60 miles away in another town. This is already a hunting state, so it may perhaps spark a kid to use a muzzleloader in the future. Middle school is such a weird time in a kid's life....
