G'day all,
I have commissioned a custom rifle build which will be in the style of a late flintlock era English Manton sporting rifle. I need to get myself a new bag for when it arrives and am curious what style of bag would suit a gun of that period. I will be using it purely as a hunting rifle so it doesn't need to be PC but I would look to get something that is if practical.
Any suggestions or historical references would be appreciated.

Hi Bushfire,
Since the first Manton Sporting Rifle was made around 1785, do you mean a rifle circa roughly 1800 to 1820? Could you be more precise as to the time period?
As I'm sure you know, such a rifle would most likely have come in a fitted wood case with accessories inside. Following the English tradition, you or your batman would have carried the accessories in pockets and perhaps in a belt pouch.
Or are you asking for a pouch of the period that would have been used in America with such a fine arm?
Gus

I know nothing about english history in regard to shooting and guns at that time. I'm looking to have a manton v pan which would put it early 19th century.
I might have to look into a belt pouch.
