I plan to add places I am questioning over time. Please feel free to do the same.
As I read period accounts, journals and such, I see names of places and try to get an idea of where things are taking place or the path of a journey. Often over time town names change, or towns disappear. Sometimes they are Indian towns and whites call them by another name. I am reading "Luke Swetland's Captivity and Rescue from the Indians," again. And while I have been mulling over this question for some time and across many narratives, I'm finally prompted to start the discussion.....
Again, please feel free to ask about and add other locations....

So, let's start with what I think might be an easy one. I have seen the Indian town of Appleton mentioned in this current book as well as in other capture narratives taking place in the area of western PA and NY. The only Appleton I find currently on the map is in Maryland which doesn't make sense when following any of these stories. So, is the Appleton of the 18th century the current Appletown in New York state on Lake Ontario?

Wiki says today's Appleton, NY, is part of Newfane town in Niagara county, NY, on Lake Ontario. I'd say yes.

Not sure I understand the connection between Newfane Town and Appleton becoming Appletown,,,, but I will look it up.
Here are a couple more. Turns out Mehoopany is still there in PA. Remember he was taken from near his home in the Wyoming Valley of PA. having gone there when it was still believed by some to be under Connecticut jurisdiction.
So, what about Shemongo? From there on to Catherine's Town, which doesn't sound like it was too far from Appletown. But I found nothing similar in the area.
