I just received this in the mail today, recently unearthed in the Mackinaw Straits area. It bears the unmistakable mark of Claude Doron, and is clearly a 3 pin, FULL TANG boucheron! This means that not only were there 3-pin boucherons imported from St. Etienne cutlers, there were FULL TANG ones, as well. I have not previously seen this documented anywhere - including Gladysz and Hamilton. upload image for forum

Excellent acquisition and information.... "Maybe that means there were shorter blade lengths too,,,,," he pondered hopefully.... After all, new information like this keeps coming to light occasionally.

Now that is fascinating,
As Paul S. Martin wrote in Twilight of the Mammoth when discussing human driven extinction of megafauna āabsence of evidence isnāt evidence of absenceā.
Iād love to know the length of the blade. Where was it uncovered? I.e. a fort, upturned boat, campsite?

Iād love to know the length of the blade. Where was it uncovered? I.e. a fort, upturned boat, campsite? True indeed. I, too, wish it were intact. I may be able to estimate its original length somewhat based on blade width and proportionality to others I have. It is 1 1/8" (1 pouce) wide, which is consistent with two other known 6 pouce boucherons I have, but it is impossible to say for sure. As to location, I don't have any specifics. I got it from a guy who is a very established metal detecting hobbyist who works the trade routes and sites around the Mackinaw Straits of Michigan. Those fellas tend to be very secretive about specific locations, for obvious reasons, though it is all supposedly on private land.
