My hunting partner and best mate Ellie or "moo" as we call her was diagnosed with cancer earlier this year. She's really starting to slow up and get quite skinny. In Australia we use gun dogs for birds and big game, she's done work on quail and ducks but I spend more time using her as an indicator dog for deer. A couple of weeks ago I took her up the mountains for one final hunt together, we were blessed to take what is most probably our last game animal together. I've always grown up with dogs but she's a once in a lifetime dog for my wife and I. I hate to think of her no longer with us but we have had a lot of good times together and I'm sure she'll be waiting there wagging her tail when it's my time.

What a wonderful Twighlight to her working career.
I had to help my last Collie Girl pass through the veil of tears a few years ago and finally had to admit I could no longer properly care for another of my many four legged children for their entire life. Just got too old myself. I do miss having one at my side.
I sincerely hope that when I "pass over the river and rest under the shade of the trees” it will be with my pack of all my four legged children along with other loved ones.

As much as you and your wife have been blessed with "moo," she has been blessed with you as well. She's had a good life with a good family and now an excellent last hunt,,, for this world. It is a tough time when we know the end of our time with our little loving companions os coming to a close. We face it, we try to prepare for what we know must and will be,,, but,, it is never easy.
Just bought a $200 expandable dog ramp to help Truro get in the truck so he can have at least this one last bird season,,,, as well as rides to get hot dogs or ice cream and maybe a swim now and then. It's hard to see him need it, but good to see him willing.
Keep loving on your little "moo." She still seems willing and able, and I'm sure she knows you will do what is best by her.

I had my 14.5 year old Lab Bear put to sleep a couple years ago (tumor in his spleen and liver). He was with me through some tough times and helped me stay focused. I miss him every day and my life is poorer without him. Enjoy the time you have left with your friend.
