Did you spot the backwards "N" on the cheek side of the stock, designating it was later issued to the 4th NY Regiment? Wonder how common that might have been or if possibly the carver had dyslexia?
Since I don't have an instagram account, is there a similar set of pics for the Lightweight Serjeant's Carbine? I would LOVE to see pics of that.

I'm no where near as versed on these things as you are Gus, my impression form the caption and then the thumb piece in the photos is that this is the serjeants carbine shown. Looks like a 4 and an LI, which I would take as light infantry.
