I've been tempted by these for some time, and bought one a few days ago. It arrived in the mail this morning. 16 foot cable, can be attached to a mobile phone, laptop or tablet, and produces hi-res images or video capture in color. Also, it functions on ambient light, or 9 LED settings for dark or no light situations and waterproof so it can be used in drains and the like.
I took it out of the box, installed the software and it worked like a charm. It will pick up details of items across the room, and surfaces less than an inch away. If you put the lens very close to a surface you want to look at, and have it set on resolution of 1080p or higher, it picks up dust motes, surface scratches and similar details. Wanna check on the inside of a touch hole? QED.
I bought it with the intention of using it to inspect closed up fireplaces and inside wall-spaces on my 1790s era house. Instead, the first thing I used it on was on one of my flint rifles, then all of my smooth bores. I was also a little surprised at how a new barrel looks when it hasn't been shot in yet (a tad rougher than I thought).
A few years ago, these were expensive. Now, they are an inexpensive toy/tool. If you don't want to buy one, see if you can borrow one.
I have a woodchuck burrows around the house, and am thinking of running the cable down one out of curiosity. If the hole next to the house foundation is occupied, the critter is going to get a permanent dirt nap.
