delpstockings.com/Looking at the Seamed Heavyweight Wool Stockings. Anyone dealt with this vendor and how is the quality? I've heard of them, may have even perused the website before, but I don't own any. I don't think. I'm wondering if any other vendors sell their products as the name is strongly familiar.

I was considering South Union Mills, but the stockings are of lightweight yarn and nearly double the price.

bethlehemtradingpost.com/wool-items/These folks have a great reputation. I haven't tried them yet. Budgetary issues preclude spending much on this area of interest for the foreseeable future.

I haven’t bought directly from Delp, but assume I own some of their stockings… I believe they supply some of the hobby suppliers.
I have a pair of the Bethlehem Trading Post stockings. They’re much heavier than the usual “heavy” stockings and have a “commoner” quality to them. They’re excellent fall/winter woods stockings.
I’ve been absolutely thrilled with the handful of items I’ve bought from South Union Mills, including a pair of their common-heel stockings. While not as thick as the Bethlehem stockings, they feel altogether more authentic.
I’ll try to find time to post some photos soon.

I am cursed with having cold feet for most months of the year and moreso when wearing moccasins in the colder months. This happens even with wool liners and socks...

The fit of wool socks versus other materials is going to affect the fit of any shoes with buckles being worn. If worn with shoes that have been converted to lace-ups, problem of fit is easily solved. There is period evidence of shoes being worn as lace-ups, and I'm thinking of changing mine to lace-ups so different thickness of socks could be worn, and also how shoes can stretch or shrink because of the thin leather uppers.

When it is very cold I wear silk stockings under my wool stockings and have been pretty comfortable. Keeping in mind it doesn't get quite as cold here as it does there, but its usually damp to wet. Also, to go along with what was said above about fit, make sure your shoes/boots/moccasins aren't super tight. I'm sure you know that but it bears repeating for others who may read this.

The winter stockings I have are a wool/silk blend.

I'm late with the reply but, I've know Mike Delp for years and have several pairs of his stockings. The have held up better than other brands that I have gotten over the years. I think if you try a pair you will be happy. He does supply other sutlers, I just bought a pair at Ft. Frederick but I can't recall who that was.

Thanks Seamus - can't get a better recommendation than someone who wears them.
