I feel often times a man within the forest is only as good as the condition of his gear. That being said I wanted to present a post showcasing the simple hussif or housewife which like food provisions and medical supplies is a vastly important piece of kit in my eyes. Without properly mended or functioning gear aloft in the forest can be a miserable experience. My simple rendition of a hussif is nothing more than a linen roll with four stowage pockets containing all the accessories I find get used the most. Like most gear the contents carried by individuals of the period likely were similar but differences in individual inventory was subject to change. I normally carry two different sized spools of linen thread along with multiple feet of hemp cord, river cane needle case w/ various needles, a small tin for leftover threads, several bone and pewter buttons, small pair of scissors, decent supply of deer sinew and plenty of beeswax. Now my awl is carried in my main pack which also is a very important tool to not go without. However a nice sharp locust thron can be a great substitute as well. What do you gents carry?

Nothing quite as fancy as yours, just a bag containing necessaries (Awl is in my gun bag - has a triangular blade)...

The awl I carry in my knapsack belonged to my Father. The wooden sheath is wrapped in waxed linen thread. Keith.
