One of my "tavern" signs. Painted an old Welsh dragon as I plan to call my little project red dragon coffee. I have an order of green coffee ready for pickup so all will be underway. Anywho, my grandfather's family was from the mountain region of Whales, so the name just stuck. Therefore the dragon obviously is iconic and a must. Made both signs from white oak and will be sealing them. Dragon was freehanded looking at an original from a pamphlet that was dated in the early part of the 19th century. Painted with an iron oxide paint I mixed with linseed oil. Went over the outline with a fine paintbrush using ink. Overall believe it turned out marvelous. Two dragons on this particular sign and another larger framed sign with only one I plan to display at camp. Very happy with this little project. Finished the name.

Not much traffic here lately but sharing my first batches of coffee are ready and making a buzz locally which is very good! Give people a good cup of coffee, coffee how it should be, roasted with perfection, no modern contraptions or equipment. The first roast I'm offering is a medium/ dark from a Columbian La Meseta bean. Absolutely delicious, you won't find coffee this good on a grocery store shelf, guaranteed! I'm not set up for online sales and probably never will be, if anyone is interested in my coffee feel free to PM me. Price is $8.00 per half pound, sealed and marked by the dragon.

You have turned coffee, "the elixir of life," I to art. I live the way the colors of the sign, the roasted beans, and the basket all come together.

Just wanted to say how much I've enjoyed reading the posts in this thread!
Oh and for a lack of a better description, with home made roasted coffee beans, how long can they be stored while you use them? What is the best way to store them?
Wow, if someone set up a coffee house like you propose at an event, I would have bankrupted my "cash money" and would have had to make a number of trips to the ATM during the event! LOL!!
I understand my next questions are blasphemy to some coffee drinkers, but here we go anyway.
Now I do enjoy GOOD coffee with nothing in it VERY much, but I got to wondering if/when REAL cream or milk and sweeteners began being added to coffee? Was that done at the Coffee Houses?
Also, because chocolate was a popular 18th century drink as well, did they ever combine it with coffee in the period?

My impression from the other thread is that by the late 17th century they were adding dairy and sweeteners. And, with the evidence of chocolate on some dishes and pots at the discovered 18th century coffee house mentioned in the articles posted their, it would seem possible chocolate and coffee might have been combined in the 18th century, even if by accident at 1st. (Having visions of those early/old Reeses Peanut Butter Cup ads, but with coffee instead of peanut butter)
